Transience ~
Noun
“The state or fact of lasting for only a short time”
IMA Festivals second exhibition explores the theme of Transience through a variety of work from multiple disciplines. Derived from the latin word transiēns, meaning ‘to pass over or away’, Transience refers to the impermanence of life and experience. In Japanese culture ‘mono no aware’ refers to the bittersweet realisation of the ephemeral nature of all things, and the powerful emotions that stem from it. In nature, when cherry blossoms fall, they paint the streets in a layer of pink. Their beauty can be admired for days but eventually will fade. This exhibition encourages artists to explore the themes of Transience and produce work from a diverse range of perspectives.
What does Transience mean to you?
The exhibition provides a platform for emerging artists to celebrate their creativity and meet other creatives alike. We want to give creatives from different disciplines a platform to show off their work. We welcome any forms of visual art for submission. For long form film content consider IMA Film Festival.
IMA Festival 2023
IMA Festival is a multidisciplinary arts festival based in Birmingham. Our aim is to give upcoming artists a platform to celebrate their creativity and to meet other creatives alike. The 2-day event taking place in May will launch with the opening of the ‘Transience’ exhibition (13th May). The weekend will also feature the first ‘IMA Talks’ event (13th May), where a variety of speakers will respond to our theme ‘Never work a day in your life’. The weekend concludes at ‘IMA Film Festival’ (14th May) which gives filmmakers an opportunity to show their work on the big screen to a live audience. We want to bring artists from different disciplines together and encourage networking.
There will also be an opportunity to be a part of the IMA Festival Zine which will feature a range of artists that have taken part in IMA Festival 2023. This will be sold during the events.
